2012 offering

We are proud to share this project with you now, six years in the making. Our aim has been to create something unique and beautiful by combining different art forms, and in so doing, to elevate both.

The textbook 2012 growing season in Napa Valley afforded a first opportunity to gauge the potential of our special vineyard site. Given the long history of neighboring estates' successes, and that we had designed and planted this vineyard explicitly to produce this singular wine, our expectations were very high. Happily, expectations were met and exceeded. Having now vinified the 2013, 2014, and 2015 vintages also, we know that the 2012 depiction is the first of several great wines produced from a world class vineyard site.

We hand harvested the vineyard on October 8, 2012 at 3:00AM to ensure the fruit was chilled for delivery. The crew wore headlamps and picked into small picking bins (photo left). At the winery, the fruit was de-stemmed, rigorously sorted, then gravity-fed into new French oak barrels for a cold soak. After, the must underwent primary fermentation in barrel, was pressed off, with the young wine returned to barrel for about 24 months.

The resulting wine exhibits an abundance of both power and elegance. With a classic structure, the effusive fruit prevalent now will gradually mature and evolve as it ages in bottle, providing enjoyment over the next twenty or thirty years. Although, as we can attest, it is certainly delicious in the near term as well! For those bottles opened soon, we do suggest decanting. Our hope is that bottles from each vintage are memorably consumed on special occasions over the course of years, allowing multiple experiences over time with this unique wine.

The original abstract artwork is by Monika Steiner, with a print on the interior of the presentation box and segments of the original on each bottle.  Monika hand numbered and signed what would become each depiction label (photo right). The labels may be removed without damaging her signature, so that the artwork may be kept following consumption of the wine. Our collaboration with Monika has resulted in depiction 2012 being featured at an exhibit at the San Francisco Museum of Craft and Design in 2016!

We invite you to join us in this journey by taking the first step with the inaugural 2012 vintage. Future release allocations will be prioritized by purchase history. Due to highly limited production, we are able to offer a single (3) three-magnum (1.5L) allocation to each member on our mailing list. The three magnums are packaged in a linen-sheathed wood presentation box which displays a print of the original Monika Steiner painting on its inside top cover.

We are offering the three-magnum box of 2012 depiction for $1650.

∙ Submitting an order to us warrants that Buyer is age 21 or older, and that purchasing, shipping, and consuming wine is legal in your jurisdiction. All wines are sold in California and title passes to buyer in this State.

∙ We offer free delivery within Napa County. If you have a storage facility, we will happily drop your wine there for you. We can also hold your wine for up to 90 days, so that you may pick it up on your next visit. Please indicate your preference in the Special Instructions during Checkout.

∙ Buyer is solely responsible for the shipment of alcoholic beverages. By placing this order, you authorize us to act on your behalf to engage a third party shipper to deliver your order. We will bill the actual shipping charges once the order is sent. A tracking number will be sent to you, along with a receipt for the actual shipping charges. A business address is highly encouraged to avoid multiple delivery attempts, to ensure an adult receives delivery, and to keep rates as low as possible. For orders within California, Ground shipping is encouraged. For other locations where temperature extremes could be possible, 2-Day Air is recommended. We do our best to ship within 2 business days.
