2013 offering

Thank you so very much for your patronage. We are proud to offer today our 2013 depiction, the follow up to our sold-out inaugural vintage.

As a growing season, 2013 was an encore performance of the nearly ideal 2012 season. Moderate to warm temperatures, not much in the way of extreme heat spikes, no rain. In the vineyard, this pattern translated into small berries and a light crop of intensely flavored fruit. The deep gravel soil and tightly-spaced vines combined to force the vine roots to push deep and work hard to produce a small, but outstanding vintage.

After harvesting in the middle of the night to ensure cold fruit in optimal condition, we de-stemmed the clusters and barrel fermented in 100% new French oak at the winery. Following fermentation, the young wine was nearly opaque, a gorgeous inky violet, and intensely perfumed. Initially, the wine exhibited a very muscular tannin framework, which continued to soften and enrich the texture over nearly 2 years of barrel aging. Finally, when the finished wine was bottled about one year ago, the structure and texture had fully coalesced, combining to form a fine-grained and noble signature that can only be found in exceptional vineyards. We expect this wine to be very long lived, and continuing to beautifully evolve for many years in bottle.

The artist chosen for 2013 is Brian Nash. His original work, “A Roomful of Matisse”, acrylic on canvas, is a playful departure from the abstract work we featured with 2012 depiction. Brian is now based in Nashville, having given up a lucrative professional life in NYC, to pursue his artistic passion. Brightly colored, thematically childish, bold lines with loads of energy, Brian’s paintings are designed to bring a smile. As 2013 depiction front labels, the segments are really interesting visually and bring an upbeat feeling both in the presentation box, and on a tabletop. As always, the segments are applied in such a way as they may be removed as a keepsake following enjoyment of the wine.
