2014 was another outstanding growing year in Napa Valley, warm and even, dramatically punctuated with a strong earthquake at the end of August. The vintage was also the third straight year of drought, resulting in low yields and small berries. Harvest for depiction was September 19, nearly two weeks earlier than the year prior.

Following a meticulous night harvest, the fruit was carefully sorted then fermented in both new French oak barrels and tank. Building upon experience from previous years, we continually do our best to make small tweaks to our fermentation methods, temperatures, maceration lengths, cooperage selection, and aging times to emphasize the vineyard's special and unique traits, properly framing those attributes to ensure a long and graceful life in bottle. 2014 depiction fits stylistically between the 2012 and 2013 vintages. Dark fruited and brooding like the 2013, but on a lighter tannin frame and medium weighted like the 2012. 

We commissioned a large, 300cm x 150cm, mixed media artwork by noted Parisian street/pop artist Jisbar for 2014. Primarily acrylic and spray paint on canvas, the composition is urban, reflective, and playful. Jisbar works with the timeless themes of love, art, money, and politics in his work, which is increasingly shown around the world. Currently exhibiting in Paris, Seoul, Abu Dhabi, Tokyo, and San Francisco, Jisbar is a young artist that has already achieved quite a bit of noteriety. We are fortunate to work with him. Once segmented into labels, the busy painting has become a really interesting set of individual labels. Small 4" by 4" vignettes of the original painting, full of energy and life, adorn each magnum. We sincerely hope that you enjoy the art on the inside of the bottle as much as the art on the outside of the bottle.
