2018 once again proved out how a great vineyard terroir will persist through a broad diversity of vintages. Despite our early concerns about a late season heat spike causing rusticity of tannins, the 2018 depiction exhibits the exact opposite, velvety, fine grained, perfectly integrated tannins. This is a rich wine that will age gracefully for many decades. Brambly huckleberry fruit provide the backdrop for the copious, yet refined tannins, which portend a lengthy pleasurable drinking window.

Our artist partner for the 2018 vintage is Dasha Bough.

Dasha Bough is a classically trained painter, known primarily for her work as an animator, filmmaker, and sand art performer. Her most recent work, an animated feature documentary film called “The Conspiracy” premiered in November of 2022.

The painting (at right) Dasha created for us is titled “The Historian”. It is a combination of hand drawn, digital, and oil painted elements. Fundamentally, The Historian is a commentary on the power of matriarchy as a keeper and transmitter of societal wisdom and knowledge.

The main composition was assembled digitally and painted over physically after printing on canvas. Each character was painted separately before being assembled into the composition. Many of the textures, such as the background charcoal drawings, were drawn on paper and photographed before being comped into the work.
